DISCLAIMERS AND RULES
- Currency will be listed in Canadian (CAD) funds. Vendors and buyers from out of country will be expected to haveCanadian currency on hand. Vendors will not be expected to make change for any funds in USD.
- The Windsor Aquarium Society (heretofore WAS) is responsible only for providing the venue to hold the event,
and for the promotion of the swap event.
- The WAS will not be held responsible for any of the vendors' property that has been damaged, lost, or stolen.
- The WAS reserves the right to refuse table space, or to close tables down, in the event of any altercations or if a
vendor is found to be in violation of the following rules.
The event rules are as follows:
1) Table space will be rented out at $20.00 for a 6 foot table, or two tables for $35.00. This includes the vendors'
entry fee.
2) The entry fee for the swap meet is $3.00 per person, or $5.00 for a family. Kids 16 years old or younger will be
allowed free entry.
3) There will be a maximum of two vendors per table.
4) Anyone may register to rent table space; it is not a prerequisite to be a member of the WAS. All vendors must
submit a registration form to the WAS. Table space will not be permitted to anyone who has not filled out a
registration form. Registration forms will be accepted during the setup of the event, permitting that there are still
tables available. If the tables have been sold out, the WAS reserves the right to turn away any late-coming
registrants.
5) There will be a limited number of electrical outlets available, on first-come-first-served basis. Vendors will be
permitted to set up display tanks using these outlets, however the vendor should provide an appropriate stand to
contain the weight of any aquarium used.
6) Vendors using outlets must provide their own extension cables and power bars.
7) Vendors must provide their own change, as many interactions will be made using cash. Change will not be
provided by the WAS.
8) This will be an aquarium-related swap meet only. Please bring only merchandise and livestock relating to the
fish-keeping hobby.
9) All equipment must be in working order, or else must be labelled as "PARTS ONLY".
10) All livestock must be labelled with the name, quantity and price. All equipment must be labelled with a
price. Haggling and bartering is permitted, however all items must be clearly marked with a starting point.
11) No Ontario-native fish or plants are permitted to be sold at the swap meet.
12) The WAS reserves the right to add, adjust, or alter the rules up to two weeks prior to the event.
INFORMATION FOR BUYERS AND VENDORS
BUYERS:
We encourage you to visit the event and have a look around, even if you have no intention of purchasing anything! There will be no pressure on you to spend money at this event beyond an at-the-door entrance fee ($3 per person, $5 for a family; kids 16 and under will be granted free access, as we hope to inspire a younger generation of hobbyists!)
We are VERY excited to host Lucas Bretz of L.R.Bretz's Aquatics at this year's event! He will be coming down for the Windsor Aquarium Society's monthly meeting on the following day, so the Swap Meet will present the best opportunity for his fans in the general public to meet-and-greet with him!
Come early for your best chances at finding great deals and rare fish - anything uncommon in the area is sure to sell out quickly!
Our hosts, the Royal Canadian Legion Col. Paul Poisson Branch 261, will have refreshments and food available on site throughout the event - please be respectful of the venue, and consider offering your support and patronage to them during your time spent there!
Come with cash at the ready - a select few business vendors will be able to accept debit or credit, but the majority of our hobbyist vendors will require cash!
VENDORS:
A swap meet is a relaxed environment through which you can sell your excess aquarium-related goods, livestock, and equipment; it is run similarly to a garage sale.
A swap meet differs from an auction in the following ways:
- The price of your goods is agreed upon between buyer and seller, not at the whims of the bidding public.
- There is no obligation to make a sale, so you don't have to lose money on an under-priced item.
- You are NOT required to split the earnings between yourself and the hosting aquarium club. Your only cost will be the rental fee of your table(s)!
Some vendors may choose to set up an aquarium to display their for-sale livestock in a less stressful environment, allowing them to show their colours better and allowing the buyers to choose their favourites. If you require access to electricity, please indicate as much on your registration form.
Some vendors may bring in their livestock in buckets, scooping out the fish to bag up and sell as needed. Some vendors might have all their fish pre-bagged and lined up on the table, ready to go! (Consider keeping extra bags handy in the event of a leak.)
Vendors are required to CLEARLY label all of their livestock and merchandise with a sale price, for the sake of courtesy. These prices may be bargained on or they may be firmly set at the vendor's discretion!
PLEASE be prepared to provide a buyer with change. The Windsor Aquarium Society will NOT be exchanging cash for you in the event that you run out!
