Likely a small brittle sea star. I have tons of them hiding in the rocks - only see them if I move something around, or if I look really closely for little star arms waving from holes in the rocks. Cute little hitchikers.

How did you know it was a fire bristle? Those sound super painful.
First time I saw bristle worms, I started taking them out. Now I just leave them - have even handled a few by accident (one 4 or 5"er in the overflow once) - never any ill effects.

Ya, mantis shrimp are totally cool, and destructive. I might have cleaned up the sump and chucked him in there.

To get the fire bristle I waited while just moon lights were on for it come out- it was pretty large so I grabbed it with tongs and put it freshwater I have heard normal bristle worms are not really that bad and can even help your tank, everything I read about fire bristles worms said to get it out immediately lol

I have something large in the tank! I never seen it but my kids say it was at least 10" long and it was not the whole worm! I have to see it to believe it, thought the tank is running for over 7 years! Things could grow I guess!

Could be a medusa or a bobbit worm - I don't recall details, but they aren't good. But assuming no major problems in the tank, then it's probably not a problem predator.

The only thing is that some zoas seem to disappear from time to time, and no chalice got any chance! I got to build a trap and get this thing!

And try to get a pic! I did the home made pop bottle trap once to get a blenny that made it into the sump - it actually worked after a few days. Good luck.
