So in the past I have had to travel for work and I have my set up pretty well automated where I can leave up to 7 days and my cichlids will be fine. Well last week I left for Toronto and I came home to a tank so murky that you could barely see the fish. I found my main breeder female Kenyi dead and rotten under one of the rocks. I had a bad feeling about leaving her in there before I left (she was holding fry and males were still after her) but I didn't have time too pull her out so I figured I would just grab her this past weekend when I got home. Needless to say I should have listened to my gut and got her into a breeder box. I did a water change and the tank is still pretty murky so another one is probably in order. Hopefully I can get it stabilized and get the other fish back healthy.
Lesson: if something doesn't feel right, try to fix it ASAP
