I am setting up my 265 for Discus, I have a 135 Refugium and a 45 gal. sump. I would like to have the heaters in the sump but don't know which heater to get. The more I read the more confused I get. does anyone have suggestions on a good reliable brand. I would prefer to get a titanium or stainless steel. Should I set up with heaters in each tank or stay with heaters in just the sump?

Has anyone ever tried to use a heating element from a hot water tank to heat aquarium water?

Has anyone ever tried to use a heating element from a hot water tank to heat aquarium water? I can't imagine that being a good idea. There's really no protection against the fish or anything being burned from the bare element. Also wouldn't you have to wire a thermostat to it to regulate the temperature?
