Noted!
I would have grabbed some at the auction if I knew to expect this. I've never noticed my tigers breed before today~

Saved around 100 tiger barb eggs today. They're still breeding, but there are 10 other very hungry tiger barbs following their every move. How are these doing ?

They're not. About 40 of them were fertilized, so I got rid of the fuzzy and white ones... Then the next morning when I checked up on them again, all but one had completely disappeared. I think the fish were able to suck the eggs right through the mesh breeder they were in, or else one fish got in, had a feast, then got back out again. The one left over died off the next day.

It sure would be cool to see Tiger Barbs grow from the egg stage. If they breed again maybe set up a small 5g tank to try and hatch the eggs. If you use a Turkey baster to suck the eggs up it's easy to move the eggs to another location

Once my spare heater is free again, I'll have that option. It's currently heating my niece's Christmas Betta.
I'll be watching those barbs intently for more babies though, lol.

I have come to the conclusion that if there is zero chance that anything will happen to eggs/fry because you have taken every precaution to make sure they are safe, something miraculously improbable happens to kill/harm the eggs/fry. I have found mesh breeders to be useless for the reason you mentioned (larger fish can press up against the mesh and suck out the fry). Was it just one pair out of your barbs that were mating?

There were two males breeding with one female. Everyone else just hung around for dinner.
I'd say I've learned my lesson on the breeder!

I found some Neolamprologus brichardi fry out for a swim today. The group of adults are doing a good job of protecting the fry from the bigger fish in the tank
