I was wondering if you know if there are many people in Ontario keeping wild Betta's . I think they are an under appreciated group of fish . I don't know many individuals who do, or maybe I haven't had the pleasure to meet them yet. I think the reason why they aren't kept more often is due to the lack of exposure in the pet/fish trade. If you were to ask someone to name a type of betta, more than likely you're going to get answer along the lines of: crown tail, fighter plakat, halfmoon, and veil tail. Some of the LFS/LPS in my area are only now getting in halfmoon plakats, which is really sad seeing how they get a lot of rare cichlids, killifish, odd balls, and predatory fish. 2 years ago I was trying to see if one of the bigger and well known LFS in my area could order some Betta.macrostoma in for me, but sadly it didn't work out. The first time around I asked an employee, who responded back saying: "Oh, those sounds pretty cool, weird I never heard of them before. We don't usually order in those type of bettas, but you can try coming back at the end of the week and ask our manager", which is what I did. When I asked the manager he said: "Truth to be, we're lucky if we get them in shipments, but we don't normally order them in. There's just not enough demand to order them. Even with the show bettas on our shelves, we just get them in to provide variety to our customers. There's just lot more fish that would be smarter for us to order, you know what I mean?" There is some hope though, I know Shrimp Fever in Markham and Finatics Aquarium in Mississauga have/had wild bettas in stock. Hopefully it starts to become a regular thing.

Yes getting them through a retail outlet is next to impossible . Nice to see a few starting to at least give them a try . Also have seen them at Menagerie .....Have you tried aquabid ? Thanks for posting about them on here , lots of people enjoy learning about types of fish they rarely see. Lets hope some show up in the auctions this year .

All wilds arrived Thursday, and are currently in QT. The macros are absolutely stunning, especially the dominant male of the trio. The 3 channoides pairs are already off to a good start, 2 of the larger females are gravid. The imbellis are a lot smaller than I expected, but nonetheless, they are still a very beautiful pair. The mahachai are as awesome as I remember, a little feisty though. Will post pics as soon as the fish and their colours settle in
