looking good, will you use styro foam to absorb any imperfections on the top edge of the rough cut lumber were the tanks sit ? I have been thinking of a simular shelf system, but wasn't sure how to deal with the crown in rough cut lumber. Thinking the lumber might leave a high spot that the tank would not be surported evenly.

Yeah I plan on lining the edges with styro or buying sheets and cutting it to size and sitting the tanks on What's a good width to use?

Thickness ? On my steel frame stands I use 1/2 inch dense styro from Lowe's or Home Depot, think it is about $5 for a 2 foot x 8 foot piece. It comes in either pink, blue or light green

Added some more pieces to the stand Added top rail for future air lines and water return line for future
I also acquired some lag bolts from my work First set are 5/8" steel bolt and 1/2" lag bolt Once I can get some pics up you'll see that these are heavy duty.
So no more worries of the top shelf failing
Also added a plywood shelf where the tanks will sit Eases my wife concerns
Next up is to paint it black when the weather allows for some open windows.
