Just seeing what is preferred. I've always had plastic hoods with fluorescent light and I'm looking to get glass tops with an LED fixture for this next aquarium (possibly the Aqueon modular LED). What do think is better as far as looks and functionality goes? I'm worried that I'll always be cleaning the glass tops and it will be a PITA but I think it'll look more modern. Price is not a consideration.

I use glass tops with LED and fluorescent! They both do the job well, however for plant growth fluorescent is better in my opinion. As for cleaning the glass top, I use a swifter to dust it. No need to move the fixtures just go wild! ?

Do you just sit the fluorescent strip right on the glass?

I have a 20 gallon tall tank with glass top and a Finnex planted+ light fixture . Glass tops are great as they stop evaporation . Only issue I have is that algae grows on the underside of the glass . Very easily cleaned of during tank maintenance , literally just wipes off.

I'm concerned about the hard deposit buildup that I'd have to vinegar and scrape off the entire glass top instead of just the little strip of glass that are on hoods.

Besides if it's a glass top you can use a fine grit sand paper (1500-2000 grit) and wet sand it off with no damage to the glass at all . We have a thread on it somewhere . I'll look for it tomorrow as I'm off to work .

Ok, I've decided to go with glass tops.... except there are two kinds, a regular and a twin tube version. However they dont state dimensions. I dont want the light fixture getting in the way of opening the lids. My gut tells me to get the more costly twin tube glass but my wallet tells me the regular should be fine with LED. Any ideas?

I don't keep live plants (at least for now) so the Stingray should do well for my needs. The thing I like about the Aqueon is that it's modular. I can add more light if needed in the future.

The style is similar to the Finnax Planted plus that I have . It sits on the tank edge just about the glass top which works well ...

Ok, it's down to the Finnex Stingray and the Aqueon Optibright.... I'm leaning towards the Aqueon because it's readily available in Canada at Petsmart and they have the 60 day return policy. I do like the looks of the Finnex better though... ugh.

They use to sell the Finnex in Canada but now I think you can only get it through the States.
