I'll admit it's a possibility, though I'm certain squeezing by the filter impeller didn't help. Before adventure, no scratches; after adventure, scratches.
I've considered removing the lava rocks, though though they're placed pretty sparcely and haven't seemed to bother the loaches yet. I do make sure there aren't any underneath their favourite hides, though.
When I finally find a suitable sand substrate to switch to, they will be taken out for sure.

I think your loach will be fine.
Try to remove all sharp and rough surfaces in the aquarium. Smooth ceramic logs/caves are best, driftwood in the water is usually soft enough to be okay with loaches.
Most loaches have a small defensive barb under their eye. Sometimes, it comes out when they are excited and may scratch other loaches. I see these scratches on my loaches all the time, especially the clown loaches and orange fin blue botia, they heal up pretty quickly if you are doing regular water changes and have a decent water flow in the aquarium.

Thank you. I'll go through and get all that lava rock into a media bag and throw it into the filter when I get home from work.
