I always use the basic floating plants, and mosses in my outdoor "ponds" and just wondering if anyone use something different! I use the regular water lettuce, mini water lettuce, riccia, java moss, water hyacinth, arrowhead, and some ornamental grass! I was thinking this year I try dwarf lilies, and some of crypt sp. such as the ones used in betta bowls from a flower shop. These are usually in bloom so it would add a bit of colour as well!

I have used many different floating plants. salvinia, duckweed, red root floaters, water sprite, hornwort, and water lettuce. The first year I did a container pond I also tried some plants in pots. I had ludwigia repens that turned blood red. I also tried green cambomba that did so so, it lost of leaves on the bottom there stems but grew super bushy on top. I also tried java fern on a piece of driftwood that seemed to do well. I heard crypts do really well outside as well as sword plants. I am thinking of trying a sword plant this year and some floating star grass.

I have one sword plant, that I was going to put in the new angel tank. Maybe I should hang onto it until I set up my outdoor buckets. It has 900 feet of roots so I am not keen in disturbing it, TWICE... LOL
I am going to try tiger locust outdoors. would be meet to see if I can get it to flower! Anyone has any for sale? Looking for both variety! As well as a nice banana plant! I have lots of crypt to trade if anyone interested.....
I will also try some Cryptocoryne Cordata Var. Grabowski emersed and submersed, for an experiment!
I had star grass last year, I had to take it out because it took over my bucket completely!

Gabe this sounds great and nice to flower some lotus, but the 900 feet of roots comment really cracked me up.

I'm not even joking, the roots are as long as the plant is tall! I'll post a picture when I pull it!
