Hey all just thought I'd share a couple pictures of my newly set up 50 gallon tank. Big thanks to Glen (guppyguy) for all the plants, and helping set them all up The plants I got in there now are:: Jungle Val Corkscrew Val Amazon Sword Wisteria I know there's a couple more, forgetting the names though.. Java Moss is coming tomorrow so I'll put that in and update here. And finally there's 3 Peppered Corys in there So yeah, let me know what you think and questions welcome. Thanks.

Thanks jbrimz this is the first time I've used sand and I really like it. I'd recommend pool filter sand it's real cheap and looks nice as well. Admin, they're still kind of shy but I've caught them swimming around together a couple times and it's pretty cool. I could already tell they're going to be a favourite haha

Looks great with the lights on. And your missing plant you forgot to list is water sprite. Everything else was listed. And great shot of one of the corys. And no problem helping out.

I'm running an AquaClean 200 right now, going to get another filter to run with it once I get some more fish in there.

I'd like to switch to sand too. Does anyone have any advice on how to switch over without killing my fish and/or biological?

If you can setup a temporary home for your fish while you change over that will help I think I did mine with the fish in the tank, rinse the sand really really well until it no longer cloudy Then when adding it to the tank do it gently into the tank. That's pretty much how I went about it. Pool filter sand is what I have. Something you might want to consider is getting some light diffuser called "egg crates" And put that on the bottom of your tank and then adding the sand, the eggcrate if you use large stones in your tank it will take stress off the glass and also if you have some diggers in your tank when they displace the sand the crates will stop the large stones from moving.

I have eggcrate on the bottom of my tanks where I plan on putting rocks, driftwood I dont feel would ever cause a problem really other then shifting possibly.
And your media in filters should have enough bio to be fine swapping over. I wouldnt change filter media in same time frame as doing the swap to sand.

roland when I changed the gravel in my 10G and did pretty much what agirard did. Took the fish and all the decorations out of the tank and put them all in the same bucket with the heater in there too. Took out the old gravel and put in the new, then put everything back in. If you're really worried about the bacteria you could take some of the old gravel and put it in a couple nylons and let them hang in the tank for a couple weeks. As for something under the rocks I just used styrofoam, cheaper and easier to find than eggcrate and works just fine. BTW I put the Java Moss onto the driftwood and some on the rock on the right. I'll post pics soon

Thanks guys. Appreciate the advice. I've created a beach in the front of the tank and gravel/fullers earth at the back. Almost crystal clear after 1/2 day. I'll be uploading pics of my new scape soon.
