For those of you that are experienced with the outdoor ponds or tubs. What have you raised outdoors successfully either tropical fish or cold water fish ? And have you bred any fish species outdoors ? I have not dabbled much into trying many species species outdoors yet. I have raised wild type guppies outdoors very successfully with lots of fry being born. I have also raised a few blue coral platys outdoors. This year I will be trying some wild type endlers that I expect to do just as well as the wild type guppies.

So far I successfully bred White Cloud Mountain Minnows, short and long finned, which all turned out to be short finned at the end !!! As well as tiger platty's, and mixed Endler's!!! As for keeping fish outdoors, I kept White clouds, coral red pencil fish, black darter tetras, platty's, sword tails, Endler's. This year I will try to breed the pencil fish, as well as, the tetras.

Really great list of fish. Always good to see what can be kept outside.

Firemouths, flagfish, mollies, orange shoulder paradisefish, several danio species, some barbs and a few rainbowfish. You can do almost anything in a pond or container as long as they can take some heat and not too worried on water flow. Tropicals just go out later and in sooner.

You guys are in the banana belt of Ontario compared to us here in Kitchener I have kept White Cloud Mountain Minnows and Rasboras in large bowls outside ... unfortunately they got zapped by cold one September night ... I should have taken them out on the Labour Day weekend Next time I will use larger tubs and maybe put in a heater, just in case

I have put heaters in when the nights get cold so I don't have to rush so bad to get them inside in the fall.

Last year I lost a few fish to cold weather as well, did not think to bring them in earlier, and than it just cooled right down to mid fifties and even my white clouds did not like that! Out of 40 fry I have 15 left! It sucked at the time, but learned my lesson for sure!

I dropped a heater in my container pond near the end of the season last year since the nights were cool and the fish did well till I took them out at the very end of September.
