It has natural stone mixed with Fluval substrate. Swords, val, ludwegia. Characin tank, just started cycling 2 days ago. Will repost as it develops, hoping PH to acidify slightly (currently at 7) and will add some better lighting as I find it used! Hoping to teach my 3 little girls a thing or two about the addiction of fishkeeping! Attachments:

Great looking start. I would be more than happy to help you create your amazon basin ecosystem.

those cardinals probably won't survive the cycling process.

I know everyone says they are very sensitive, but so far they are thriving. I am doing frequent water changes and monitoring carefully. As the saying goes....this isn't my first rodeo.

Your plants look great. And the val will look awesome once it spreads and fills out. And your new light is very nice. Much brighter. Looks good so far all around.

The plants cost me 50.00 and they are growing like crazy with that new light. The light is from PetsandPonds a canadian website, best prices and they seem to carry everything for the serious hobbiest and none of the junk you dont' need. The light was 209.00 and came with the bulbs. It is the Hagen Glo T5 HO 48", it has changed the look of my tank dramatically. The company I ordered it from also through in a nice timer and shipped it to me for free the next day.

The plants from the plant guy are well worth it. Me and 3littlefishes did a group buy together to save on shipping and my crypts I got from him a wonderful. I am very happy with plants from there. And you should take weekly pics of your tank and post growth updates.

here is the 55g at almost 2 months old. I have cut the plants down several times, gave some away, replanted tops, etc. My sword had 2 babies and several of these plants will be moving to my new tanks soon. Attachments:

yes it is guppy guy. It is the craziest plant I have ever owned. I cut it down every day and every morning it has passed the surface of the water! The moneywort is a crazy grower too! It seems as though this tank has hit its chemical sweet spot for plants and everything is taking off. My substrate is Fluval stratum as a first layer topped with crushed red river rock. I prefer sand, but it was a bit of a spontaneous purchase on my part. i use those mystery plant capsules from Plantguy and I dose every other day with API fert. and everyday with liquid CO2. I haven't made the switch yet to a CO2 system, I have considered it though. My tank PH is around 6.8 with very very soft water.
