I know, it's frustrating to spend so much money on something and find out it's nearly useless. I wish the digital test kits with the probes were affordable so we wouldn't have to mess with this archaic chemistry experiment every time we want to test the water. Oh tell me more..! Although, i'm sure i'd find a way to complain about those too lol. Digital water testers arent always that reliable either. Part of my to-do list at work tomorrow is to call up tech support and have them recalibrate our water testing spin lab because its refusing to give me an alkalinity reading after we updated to the latest software. I literally test water for a living now so i thought the testing was going to be the EASY part of getting back into fishkeeping.

I've always treated the test kits as a guideline like Phish mentioned earlier, "OK, Caution, Dangerous" scale.. Reason why i prefer the chem kits over the strips is just more cost effective. I know there are a few different brands of kits and they each use a different color scale so maybe trying a different brand might do the trick.
