Well I decided to breed my Bettas. So I conditioned them for a week with heavy feedings, than I kept them separated, but in the same tank for a week. All this time feeding heavy with live, frozen and pellet foods. Sunday I released the female and there was a lot of posing, scale ripping, and chasing. The female hid behind the filter after about two hours. I took this as she was not ready yet. So I separated them again. Monday after work I let the female go again, and she was a lot more receptive to the advances of the male. After about 20 minutes the first embrace and release of the eggs happened. This went on for around four hours, when the female would just wanted to snack on the eggs from the nest. This is when I took her out and left the male alone. Now my observation; I would not use live floating plants for the male to build the nest in ever again. As the pair was breeding, they would entangle in the roots and shake eggs loose from the nest! Moreover after the fry hatched they were getting stuck on the roots as they wriggle out of the bubble nest. I saw the male habits hard time getting the fry out from the roots. And now I’ll try to post some pictures! And finally the roots with all the wrigglers stuck on it! (All the white sorts.)

The male is still hard at work, however there are a few free swimming fry already. I started feeding them and see the fry chasing the food, they are quite ferocious eaters.

The betta fry are doing great in their new home. I saw a few tails being nipped, however no major fighting! So far so good!

Unfortunately I lost all the fry from this breeding. However the older batch is doing well! Here is the power of Sera o-nip tabs!
