After keeping 30 plus discus some loved with me over 6 years, this is relatively easy. Just the basics: 1)clean tank 2) 50% water changes every 2-3 days 3)make sure your filter is completely cycled and can handle the bio load in the tank. 4)use “SAFE” as the declorinator 5)make sure your fish are health when you get them.
The rest should take care of it self. Few things to note: I always keep a bare bottom tank, I don’t believe in substrate, it takes way more Maintanace to keep the tank health that way, although I do love the look, and some very accomplished aquariumists can maintain a good tank with substrate, I find it a pain and too much room to have problems. I always keep a bare bottom and vacuum daily.

I always keep a bare bottom and vacuum daily. Yeah i know this. But anytime i get guppies they keel over. I keep other fish just fine, including delicates like the farlowella genus, which thrive. I keep tiny nano fish too, no problems. But no, not guppies. I look at them and they die. Mollies and platies are fine. Guppies, no. Im trying again though. I got a free guppy fry whos been doing good, so i tried getting her some guppy friends. First set of friends died within a few days. I got some more from another source... its day 2. Ill see how they go lol i just have bad luck with guppies themselves. Tanks are all cycled, weekly water changes, water tested, substrate all vacuumed (i do sand), tanks are all over filtered.

Maybe go to 50% every other day water changes. So weird some fish just don’t work with some people.
