Asking about the rainbow wag boy (the speckled with red tail) Young male still, but i brought him home a little while ago. Lovely fish, i like him a lot but im noticing he has a very thin streamlined body and more pointed delicate face compared to my platies (one of my platy boys born in my tanks in first photo with the boy in question) Another reason im asking is i see some swordtail traits in him, besides shape. He has some horizontal stripes on him starting to bleed out of the red marking, which i typically see on swordtails not platies. He was in a mixed tank of swordtails and platies, so he could be either or, or maybe a mix. I dont mind one way or another, but i am curious. I have him housed with 2 brother platies and he gets along well with them enough.

It´s one of the aquarium strains (fancy strain) of the xiphophorus variatus. Which means, he's a platy. The wild variatus platy does have the vertical bars on the side as well like certain swordtails have. So, he's a genuine platy.
