I was just wondering what everyone was planning on breeding outside this year and what you're using to breed your fish in outside. I'm still not sure what I'm going to try outside this year so I am looking for some inspiration from the club.

I had wonderful success with Giant Danios, Apistogramma and White Cloud Mountain Minnows. I also cultivated some of the largest Amazon Sword Plants I had ever seen. I lined my ponds with Crypts and Hygro.

This year I think I will try a few Livebearers outside. So far every year I had raised egg layers with some success. I think this year I would like to try red albino guppies, green neon platties, maybe some blond blue star Endler’s Livebearers.

Last year I had a gar living outside in a 200 gallon tub, unfortunately he had to be put down and donated to science at the ROM. This year I’m thinking of doing endlers or mixed guppies so I don’t have to run power. Also have some paradise fish I might throw in there but I have a feeling they will pick off the endlers fry - anyone have any suggestions?

Paradise Fish. Guppies are just way to common.

I was thinking of trying angles out side in my 240 tank and maybe the marble convicts that I got from Bobby G. In the pool I'm going to try the bleeding heart platy and the celeb halfbeaks, both livebearers.

Halfbeaks would look good in a tub, being able too view them from above with some floating plants. The angels would love to summer outside in the 240 gallon

As it is I have to make sure I got lots of floating plants, and the raccoons don’t see the fish. Had all my red brick swords disappearing on me, and lots of raccoon foot prints in the dust by the bin. Also had birds catching fish. I thought that they are drinking until I saw something wriggle in one’s beak. I was not happy to loose some of my long finned mountain minnows.

I lost an entire pond full of Giant Danios one year to a Heron.Floating plants (and lots of them) help with the predation.

Summer tub. Literally an old corner bath tub. About 130 gallons. Last year I did guppies and plants. It above ground so I use a 5 gallon pail filled with media for a sump. I grow plants in little soil Tupperware capped with pool filter sand..

Above picture. If you look closely. I think dwarf hairgrass mini has overwintered in this container. I cant think of what else it could be. Outside all winter. I just put it in the pond today.that would be cool. Still not 100% what fish will go in here. The temp without heating is 68F in the tub this evening. That's real good.

Very nice! Good way to recycle a bathtub.
Do you find that the white interior of the tub encourages algae growth?

Yes. It gets alot of algae. I wanted to paint it grey, but never took the time. Maybe next year. But, algae does not stuck at all to that acrylic. I can brush all algae off the sides with a broom super easy. So I think I would use acrylic paint if I paint it too.
