No info is to much info ! Cheers. This seems to be a great forum and I’m glad I decided to join. A wealth of knowledge. I think as you said I’ll leave the Betta in for the cycling now that I have the proper seed to do so safely. I might wait the 30 days just to be sure and start testing in the next couple days once it’s adjusted a bit. Since I’ve switched back to the freshwater I think I’m going with cichlids. My plan was to get 3 and possibly a pleco or another cleaner to keep the algae down once that starts producing. As far as introducing them slowly goes, would 3 at once be to much or bring them in 1 at a time. Well technically discus and angelfish are cichlids themselves, so maybe be a little more specific on what kind of cichlids you are thinking. If you’re planning on rift lake cichlids like aulonocara or Mbuna I would suggest doing a heavier stocking to spread out the aggression. If you’re thinking apistos or South American species, those can sometimes be done in pairs or small colonies with lots of plants and hides. Take your time and do lots of research with the different kinds, I made that mistake when I was getting in Mbuna and had a bloodbath. Good luck

It’s a hard decision to be honest. I only have a 30 gallon bow front so I need smaller cichlids and have been looking at lots of the peacock and mbuna. Is there a section for breeds and sellers in this forum. I’m not seeing one but maybe it’s under a different title. Haven’t had a lot of time these past few days to scroll around on here.

Regarding cycling a tank... I did the old school method as Gary mentioned and feeding the invisible fish, as well i had purchased an API testing kit and i believe every person new to this hobby that doesn't understand the "Nitrate Cycle" should go this method as you will see the cycle progress right before your eyes What i did was feed the tank for a week straight and then after the first week i would start to test the water daily and log the results and as the week progressed you will see the changes happen according to the tests. Many people want to rush and get fish and when their tank crashes their fish die and wonder what happened etc... It's one thing to read about the "Nitrate Cycle" and say yes i understand it's another to see it through testing and that was a lightbulb moment for me in really understanding proper keeping of fish.

Thanks the advice. I’ve been looking into it for the past few days now. Once I pick a specific sp I’ll start some research on it. There’s a lot more options now than 20 years ago lol. Especially colorful sp. having a hard time choosing a route. That’s why I was hoping to find some local breeders.

Why not German Blue Rams or Apistogramma? These require similar conditions as Discus. It will prove a trial run on eventually making a Discus tank work.

That’s a great idea and I’ve seen some nice rams. I also liked the sunshine peackocks. But unsure if a 30 gallon would work for them. Was considering 3. I’m a little all over the map because of the new choices. The rams get great colors and stay smaller which is great for the tank size. The store also has some nice blue jacks that will be brilliant blue. I really want them to match the tank size. Nothing worse than fish crammed into a small tank.
