I found a few plans for a DIY light hanger online and I decided to give it a try for my new tank as I wanted the freedom to raise and lower my T5 fixture to adjust lighting levels without drilling into my ceiling. Also the glass top I bought prevented me from using the feet on my fixture. It was actually a very easy job and costs around 50-100 dollars depending on what you buy. What I used: -3/4" electric conduit piping -3/4" electric conduit bender -1/2" end caps -3/4" pipe support brackets -screws -hack saw with fine teeth -measuring tape -leveler First thing is just to measure out everything, (the bender gives you the amounts to compensate for) Then Bend it, and make sure its the correct angle, then cut it to the desire height, put an end cap on if you want, and make sure its level To attach it to your stand, make sure you have clearance from the tank or else add a shim (like I did) and attach with screws and support bracket. The finished product, with my lights hanging. My lights actually came with a hanging kit so I didn't have to buy that but you can buy a hanging kit yourself or use steel line with some type of stoppers. Here's another:

@jhg its a 40B, which is a little over 40 gallons Is that the 42G size which some used to call the 40 squat? I believe those were 36x18x12. I used to run those tanks and thought yours looked like one. My favourite size tank to work in, plus they have lots of depth to them... If that's the same tank I'm talking about. Hagen makes them. Some also called them 40G breeder tanks. I used to have one as a show tank and a few others on an steel stand to breed, etc. Does Hagen still make those? Looking forward to seeing yours setup.
