Look fantasitc Ryan. I am jealous lol. You did a great job with that tank even with little issues. I think no matter what every tank will have some algae. But excellent job.

Update again. Progress has been amazing, the Dwarf baby tears are now almost entirely filled in. I added a new light fixture to boost the stem plant growth (finnex ray II DS), so I will see how progress with the stem plants goes and update accordingly. Still continuing with EI and ADA "lights" ferts; absolutely no algae in sight... Co2 is still pumping, but the fish seem to be doing well with it; 50% water change every 4-6 days. I would highly recommend the dry start method to anyone attempting carpeting plants. Some HC was uprooting so I "pinned" the loose pieces with spares twigs of drift wood and they seem to be re-rooting. Compare: Beginning- Attachments:

Nice to know it is not a myth, and someone has good results, I do not have good luck with HC....

Me too. I've tried HC and UG. No luck. I'd like to do a dry start when I rescape in Dec but I'm concerned about my stem plants being able to handle emersed growth.

Thank you guys, I was skeptical at first too, but it really does work. Rainbowfish Alan Only one of my stems plants (ludwigia repens)did not make it through the dry start method. Many actually grew during it. That being said the dry start method is not really the greatest for stems plants, I found they grew very slowly once I filled the tank (although they seem to be doing fine now) and they did grow a little awkwardly as they could not support their own weight without water holding them upright. But now after a few weeks of the tank being filled they seem to all be growing correctly.

Updated, posted in Tank Jornals and photos; Found here: windsoraquaria.proboards.com/thread/1360/high-light-planted-tankI removed all the HC due to it uprooting and switched to dwarf hair grass. The Dry start method was a great success and I highly recommend it, but I found out the hard way just how much maintenance HC is and when left unchecked it will uproot.
