Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows of some natural remedies to help fish repair damaged fins. I had a small kole tang in my nano tank that was getting along great with my clown fish for weeks. Yesterday they decided to turn nasty and attack the tang non stop. He has since been moved to my larger aquarium to heal up. He is eating and swimming great but his fins look terrible from the abuse. Any suggestions?

Melafix can be used in a hospital tank but I don't suggest it in a display tank.
The cold fact is your clowns probably want to or are breeding and will not tolerate another fish near their hosting site. 14 gallons is the problem. According to Live Aquaria 20 gallons is the minimum tank size for a clown.

Tea tree oil can be used to heal a damaged fish but I'd isolate the fish in a FO tank if keeping corals, etc. TTO is very potent so you need very very little. I used to use it on FW FISH upon the recommendation of a fellow hobbyist who had his MSc in chemistry.

There is a Marine version but I do not know if it is actually different from the standard version.

TTO is the active ingredient, however it is FAR cheaper to buy a bottle of TTO than it is Melafix. Let's not forget most aquarium sold products are aimed at increasing their profit margin. . There are often equal or better than substitutes, that are also cheaper, for most things found in a bottle at your LFS. If you are going to use TTO you need to measure the amount vs the volume of water. To give you a perspective,I've used two drops of TTO to treat a 40G tank successfully. TTO is very concentrated, far more so than what you'll find in Melafix. I've attempted to contact my friend the chemist for a more scientific response.

Melafix is appropriate for his requirements. But again I suggest use of Melafix or TTO only in a seperate tank for Marine use.

She's not afraid to bite my hand when I'm cleaning the tank or doing any maintenance.

You just let me know if you want a 3 footer or a 4 footer. I have a sump to match and will cut you a great deal if you are interested. I have a 28 bow front you can have for nothing if you are thinking that will help but you really seem to have aspirations of something big enough for tangs.

I love the cube in terms of the compact space which Is great for my clowns. I would definitely like to have a100g or bigger within the year. If I don't I'm going to give the tangs to a friend of mine with a 220 gallon system.
My female clown is crazy though. She attacked me and swam at my hand so fast, missed and flew right out of the tank.

Well the biggest I could have offered you was a 90gal. It was my first reef actually. Either way I hope you make the upgrade it is night and day compared to a contained cube type system. The offer is still on the table if you are interested. Sooner or later I'm going to post a few dozen items on the for sale forum but I'm trying to do what I can for the reefers out there first. It suits my personal agenda of trying to support the dark side of the hobby.
I hope you keep your lid on if she is that motivated BTW. Mine will allow me in the tank but I need to stay at least 8 to 12 inches away from her frogspawn coral.

I was doing some filter maintenance on my 30g today. I have my lights suspended over the tank and i have a lexon plexi top for it. When i put everything back after about 10-15 minutes of maintenance I realized I was missing a clown. Well it jumped out. I found him life less and put him back in. He's slowly getting better. I think he's going to make it.

He might make it. Consider a light feeding and then an early lights out. If possible reduce the flow a bit too. You want to try and give him some time to recuperate in a low stress environment.
