I found a write up for our September 14th Speaker:
Peter DeSouza has had a love for living things all his life. His parents lived in fear of what he would bring home and keep in the basement. From an early age he had aquariums and raised livebearers and spawned some of the easier cichlids. In University his interests turned to the new African cichlids from Lake Malawi that were just hitting the scene. Later he spawned and raised Blue Gularis before getting married and leaving the fish hobby behind for a few years. In 2002 after accepting a position with a Poultry Company in Edmonton he decided to raise fish again. This time he started with killifish right away with a few small tanks. However, as a good friend once told him, ’Breeding fish is easy. It is stopping the tanks from multiplying that is the challenge’. Today his fishroom contains approximately 50 tanks of various sizes filled with mostly Killifish. He has raised and spawned representatives of most of the Killie groups but has a preference for fish of the genus Fundulopanchax particularly sjoestedti, the Blue Gularis. His presentation, titled ‘Killifish for Hard Water’ is designed to dispel the myth that Killies can only prosper in soft, acid water
