I have to tare down my 46 gal bow front tank for a sump/stand repair! How is best to save all the livestock!?! Also what are thoughts on setting back up without the cycle restarting? This tank has been up and running for 6+ years so there is a lot of established fauna in there! Any suggestions are welcome!

I was going to build the new stand ahead of time, so it will make the move a lot easier. However I will need the livestock out of the tank for at least 6-8 hours, to set up the new sump, protein skimmer, and algae ladder, it takes a bit of a time since most will have to be new. I'm increasing the sump to 30 gal. Adding a DIY skimmer, and have to build a new algae ladder. So it will take a few hours for each project. Also I have to keep the corals and other fauna heated, adding about 25 gal of new water, and the old water. Also I will take apart and clean all the piping and water circulation equipment. My basement will be a mess. The wife will kill me several times, and I will pull out the little hair I have... Did I leave anything out?

if you use big rubbermaid totes and put in your heaters and a wood airstone you should be fine for the afternoon as for new water mix ahead of time and heat it and get all the params the same as your tank water and you should b good to go

That is a lot of work Gabe, but I would have to agree with the Rubbermaid totes idea as well.

That was what I was thinking as well! I'm just not looking forward to all the heaters, circulating pumps and water everywhere! Oh well, the joys of the hobby!!!

Be prepared to deal with any livestock issues. Like ich maybe feed with garlic. The fish will be stressed when they r back in the tank.
