Hey Mike! Nice to upgrade before the Holidays, that way you can blame Santa! You might have to clean the filter a couple of times if it is searing the tank so much! Otherwise the sludge just plugs the pores for your media and that is not good! Just my experience with canister filters!

Eheim makes the premier filters in the hobby! I keep saying it but it's true. You can pass those things down to other generations.

They're an investment, but well worth it. When I brought mine over from Austria the company went out of their way and actually replace all of the 220 volt motors for 110 ones so I didn't have to run converters. They offered it to me without my prompting. That's what I call customer service.

That sounds good Mike! Hopefully it works out great! It is certainly a lot more work to keep a planted tank perfect but it is so much more rewarding!

Yes planted tank are more work but like Gabe said much more rewarding.
