I never seen anybody successfully captive bred clown fish, it's pretty hard with the female all picky about how the eggs is being take care of by the male. If she doesn't like it she'll kicked him out, smh females lol (pun). U must of doing something right so congratulations again and please enter for BAP because I know clown fish is not easy to breed.

You have to be a society member to enter BAP. Lesfromlakeshore is our BAP chairman so he will decide.

clown fish have been bred in captivity , the trick is like fresh water fish is to raise them up. i'm sure you can do it just may take some practice. good luck and congrats.

Salt water fish and corals would fall into a M.B.A.P.( Marine Breeders Award Program ). It is something we are looking into and plan on instituting . So if you are successful by all means it would be awesome if you participated . You do have to be a Windsor Aquarium Society member.

I also had this happen several times! My clowns lay about once or twice a month! Never had any survivors! When the eggs hatch they go through the larva stage and most end up in the filter sock (unless eaten by other fish)! However if you have rotifers you can raise the fry fairly easily! I would suggest removing the eggs to a tumbler (or just separate them from the parents and run air over the surface for water movement!) Rotifers eat phytoplankton so they should not be a problem to culture, you just need to find a good starting culture!

Congratulations on the fry!
I know a few hobbyists who breed and raise clownfish successfully. They are one of the marine fish that can be bred in captivity with some care. ORA breeds their own clownfish and they supply a number of retail stores such as J&L Aquatics, etc. Check out this link to see some of the clownfish they breed - www.orafarm.com/products/fish/clowns/ just to give you an idea. If you're serious about raising them, then I'd hook up with a few breeders on a dedicated SW forum such as Reef Central, etc. I can try and contact a local hobbyist on the east coast who I knew was breeding them some years ago. I'd just need to see if I still have his contact info.

My clowns always looked like they were going to lay eggs and never did. I'm hoping they do because I have a black and white tank raised and a ocellaris tank raised that have paired up. it might back for some interesting colour combos and patterns.

Awesome. Have you considered separating them?
