I have decided to setup a planted tank for shrimp and guppies. My question is can I mix the types of shrimp in the tank or should I only have 1 type. I was thinking about ghost shrimp to occasionally feed my cichlids and red cherry shrimp just because from what I have been reading they see like a cool addition. I have never had shrimp in an aquarium before so any advise will help
thanks Sam

I keep fish with my shrimp, however the shrimp population dropped from hundreds of shrimps to 20 - 30. As long as you do not mind the losses! I also have shrimps in all my tanks and some of them I never even see until feeding or the rare occasion when I peek in the tank with a flashlight after lights out!

I heard that ghost and Cherry shrimp will cross breed if kept together, eventually all the shrimp would be clear in colour like ghost shrimp. Maybe some help from members with more shrimp experience. Is this true??

According to the chart in the link I provided they are ok to put together. But I have no experience with them.

Paleomonetes sp. (Ghost shrimp)and Neocaridina denticulata sinensis (Cherry shrimp) can not interbreed, two different species! I kept them together for years! The ghost will eat some of your cherries thought!

As Gabe says, they won't interbreed. However, don't keep red, yellow, blue or green shrimp together. They will breed, resulting in a drab brownish colour
