I currently have a single Life-Glo 40w T8 HO and I know its not adequate lighting for my 55 gallon planted tank. So, i came across a fixture that holds 2 48" bulbs that i plan on modifying to fit the top of my tank but am looking for the best bulbs at a decent price. Any advice would be appreciated.

The best bulds are Giesemanns but they will usually cost a decent amount, as Mike said the GE ones are good.

Thanks for the advice, I grabbed one of each bulb. Here's a pic of the final product.

Looks good nice and bright. Do you still have a full glass top on the tank ? One thing to keep an eye on with that type of light fixtures, (the same kind I use) If the ballast ever goes it could drip that nasty brown stuff from the ballast into the tank. That is why I asked about the glass lid. Not a huge worry, just something I thought I should mention

Also I would cut back on the time the lights are on! Just to get everything used to the higher light and to prevent an algae bloom!
