well not new to fish...but new to this forum
well my name is josh and as i stated not really new to fish but im still very much learning...there is just way to much to know and retain...i have two tanks set up right now....the first one is a 40G fresh water tank that has given me nothing but problem right up until last week were everything is going great now.... when i first got the tank it came with decorations rocks and eraser in it..yes i said in it and fish it was going good the fish were kinda healthy and moving around then i moved it to it current location i bought well over $200 worth of fish and they all died...not all at once but did....and me being the genius i kept buying fish and they kept dying... so i gave up on that tank bough a 10G tanks set it all up and the fish that i had were doing great..so i started to think what is wrong with it...turns out it was just filthy and that eraser that i found was killing them off im assuming even tho water tests were saying other wise...so i spent hours cleaning everything out..then bough some danioes and snails to add the bacteria in to the tank...after a week they were all alive still so though it was fine so i added my fish back in and guess what....they all died again slowly but all died took the water in again to get it tested and again it was just fine...so bough some what ever fish and let them live in it for about a month and were just fine...then started adding fish back slowly but i was adding the wrong fish for what i wanted...i got two leporinus and two gar and then about a dozen different barbs...found out real quick that the gar wouldn't eat anything other then live fish so went out twice a week and got live fish and feed them...well fish that eat live fish grow real fast and got to the point were they were big enough to eat the other fish in my tank...so about a two weeks ago all i had left in my tank was the gar, the leporinus an angle fish, an red tailed shark, a female fiddler crab and 2 gold gouramis, well one day i forgot to feed the fish and the leporinus ate the angle fish and the gar tried to eat the gourami failed but it couldn't swim so the fiddler crab ate it....i said enough was enough took the gar and leporinus to the pet store traded them in for a $60 store credit and got about $120 in schooling fish different verities(ask me if you want to know what kind) and they are now doing great wekk over a week now and not a single one has died
now i have a random 10G tank laying around...so i turned it in to a fire belie newt ecosystem attempt(not the greatest)...still adding and creating to that one tho...but i have held off because the two newts i have in there are not doing very well so im trying to nurse them back to health...the one is doing much much better but still not at 100% then other one not so much so im going to try pure water and give it a boost...and other ideas would be more then welcome
well sorry for the long read just figured i kinda suck at introductions like this so i just gave just about my historyish on my current tanks...
very brief history of how i started with fish my uncle has had fish tanks for ever and all i can remember is how cool they are to look at so my mom bough me a 30G tank when i was 10ish and i added as the allowance came on...then one day my mom decided to clean the tank so she did everything the way you should except one thing...she used soap to clean with..needless to say sold that tanks...
