the next few steps I am going to show you how to make a solution to add to your water if you want to make it more acidic. I replaced about 20% of my total tank volume with peat tea and have brought my PH down from 7 to about 6. This first pic is of pure peat moss (bought at Can tire) make sure there is nothing added to the moss. I have mixed it thoroughly with water at a ratio of 1:1 water to moss. Then put it on the stove and turn it up to begin boiling! Attachments:

strain your tea. If you really dont' want any particulate at all you can strain it through coffee filters. Personally, I am not that fussy. You can then put the peat back in the pot and fill with more water and reboil. I reboiled the peat about 5 times to get as much blackwater as possible out of it. Then I tossed the peat into my garden. Attachments:

The finished product looks like so, cool it and add it to your tank liberally. If you have amazon fish they will be very happy, and may even begin to spawn! Attachments:

oh, and don't have a fit when your tank looks like this right after you add it. In about 12 hrs. it will clear and be a pleasant golden colour. Attachments:

I will have to post a pic of what my tank looks like after it settled. I have to admit when I saw how it looked after I dumped the tea in at first I thought I really screwed up!

An older post but a very bright idea. Did you measure your pH before and after? And then after the peat colouring cleared?
