Thxs for the welcome to the forum. Please excuse me if this is long winded. I have had a saltwater reef tank. Saltwater fish only tank and decided to get out of salt water after 10 years and go to easier cichlids. I was fortunate enough to know someone that wanted to get into salt water as I was getting out. A mutual trade off agreement was setup and I ended up with beautiful mpimbwe blue frontosas and many other African species. After having them breed for many years and supplying very nice specimens to the area I was getting overwhelmed keeping cichlid fry growing and doing the continuous breeding program with cichlids. One thing I have noticed is our area is completely saturated with African cichlids now. 15 years ago I kept rbp's red belly piranhas. Recently I made the decision to get back into having them again. I currently have a 200 g pygo tank that has 15 juviniles and A 25g tall with a large bala and large silver dollars. So I've gone back to keeping the South American species of fish.
Phew lol.

Windsor water lends itself to keeping Rift lake Cichlids - high pH and hard water means most of the work is done in that regard. I haven't noticed a proliferation of those cichilds per se. What I have noticed is a lack of variety of tropical fish overall. It seems that the stores aren't willing to go the extra mile in terms of bringing in less common fish. How many Silver Dollars are you keeping in that 25G tall? SDs are one of my all-time favourites but when they grow out you need a very large tank for them. Vegetarian Piranhas.

Yes windsor has good water ph for cichlids but is manageable to go either way, not as hard as london area( no whole home water softner needed here).. No proliferation with fronts but most others are in every shop around here saw most of them in the past 2 weeks.
I wish we could get some more rare fish as I saw last week 3.5 hours to the east. I would make the drive again any day.
. 4 sd's until another larger arrangement can be set up. Better than sharing a room with a bunch of pygos imo..

I just posted some pictures of our trip to Toronto to visit 6 fish stores, it is a lot more diversity that way!

Well as we both no Fronts are more on the higher end of the African Cichlid keepers budget. Not going to see many of those around as the LFS probably can't move them out the door very quickly. I agree, TO definitely has more to offer. Hoping one of the LFS will sit up and take a bit more of a proactive approach one of these days. How big are the SDs at the moment? I agree don't put those in with the others... LOL
