I have 4 Rock Shrimp just looking for info on them. Are Rock Shrimp, Bamboo and Flower Shrimp all the same kind of shrimp ? I was looking at the shrimp compatibility chart to see if they can go with Cherry Shrimp but Rock Shrimp not listed. Thanks

I have them with my Cherries Keith, never an issue...and it's pretty funny to see the cherries *clean* the rock shrimp (they don't like it but can't do squat about it lol).

a friend of mine was saying to put 2 rock shrimp in my tank instead of getting x amount of cherry shrimp or ghost shrimp. He said rock shrimp look nicer and you won't have nay issues with fish eating them. Is this true rock shrimp are some of the best to own?

They are fun to watch but they seem to find a spot in the tank they like with good water flow and just sit in that location, they don't swim or move around much like other shrimp I have. Yes they are to big for most fish to eat. Aqua still had 4 left yesterday and only $3.99

The rock shrimp will filter the current with their *fans* for edibles while the cherries/ghost pick through everything else (substrate, plants, decorations..) for food. The smaller ones Will get eaten BUT generally they breed like rabbits so you should have a small group hiding somewhere at all times. I say, get 'em both. =)

Just curious if the Rock Shrimp are not really the Flower or Bamboo Shrimp? These are the type sold at Petsmart right?

They are the ones sold at Petsmart and other LFS...and I'm pretty sure they are all the same, Rock/Flower/Bamboo/Asian Fan...even if they are not exactly the same they all perform the same function and are roughly the same in appearance.

The Rock shrimp I've read about and seen aren't filter feeders but the others you named are. If your shrimp is feeding by filtering organisms in the water than it's likely the other varieties. This is why using common names in the hobby causes confusion. I don't have enough fingers to count how many times I've seen species mislabelled in LFS'. Not the best situation when you've researched an animal only to find out you've got something slightly different. Nonetheless, what they sell as Rock Shrimp in Petsmart is still a very interesting looking shrimp.

I see what you're talking about J, I just meant that around here they are all sold as the same thing. A *real* rock shrimp is something that would look yummy on my dinner plate lol. They are all basically called rock shrimp around here, actually I don't think *I* have even seen them by any other name in a store.

I used to see some really cool river shrimp when I was living in Ghana. Unfortunately, I only really experienced them on my plate as well. Cool looking species though. LOL
