It really depends on your budget!
I would go as big as you can afford with the tank, sump, and lights. Lights I would go with the LEDs since eventually you will end up getting it! Lights are the most important investment you will make! Also return pump and the skimmer as well! Get a well known reliable brand so you will not have to replaced every year or so! Same with circulation pumps! Also highly recommend a titanium heater! As for salt I use Reef Crystals for years with good results.
The best tip I can give is to go very slow! When you think you are ready to add live stock, wait for a week or so after that and only add a fish or two at the time! I wait a month or so after a fish, and add up to 4 small frags at a time but no more!
Good luck!!!

That's good advice for sure. As Gabe says. Take your time and spend a good amount Of time reading and researching online. Buy quality stuff right at the start and always buy equipment rated for more water then you have. I agree with LED lighting as well.
I've heard that LED strength dies 20% in the first year so you may need to compensate for that. They last a long time after the initial drop though. You might want to check out how that works I've just heard about it being a factor but don't know all the facts or specs about it and how it relates to the trade.
