My daughter just started a 10g with a small piranha. She is thinking of putting a few plants in and I have never done a planted tank. Need to keep this cheap and simple!
She has an old-school hood that accepts 2 bulbs. Right now there is a 15W aquarium tube kinda bulb (incandescent) and a 13W 6500K spiral compact florescent. Are there cheap bulbs that could go in there and support some hardy plants? Tank does get a fair bit of indirect sunlight, if that matters.
Also, what are the cheapest, easiest plants that would work in there?
Thanks!

Two 13W 6500 K bulbs would be more than enough to support some great plants! The 6500 K bulbs can be purchased at the dollar store! They work good! What kind of substrate does she have? If it is an inert substrate (gravel or sand) she could go with a piece of driftwood covers in moss, and a couple of pieces of java fern or any plants from the Anubias family!
