Do peolpe still use Styrofoam under larger tanks? My 150g is sitting on half inch dense styro, between the tank and the metal stand. Im setting up another tank and wondering if the styro is still recomended. It was many years ago when I set up the 150g. It does look better without the styrofoam.

I did some research about this for my 65 gallon as it doesn't have a black rim around the bottom and it is suggested to put styrofoam if they are going to be sitting without that ridge propping it up 1". Now I'm sure there are cases where it has worked with out it, but for a few bucks you can ensure any bumps or mislevel surface will be rectified. I think it mainly depends on the stand and what will be contacting the surface (I'm sure for larger tanks it's more critical). I have also heard of people putting styrofoam under aquariums with the black trim but moreso for the purposes of conserving heat which results in less heating and less electricity used.

Some great points. Yes I think I will use the Styro under the tank. So now how do you get the Styro under a 220 gallon tank? Got a crane I could borrow. lol
