It seems that time and time again i find myself facing the same issue. ICK, i've tried all kinds of medicines and all kinds of preventions but my fish always get ick.
I have read to raise the temperature to 85 degrees to kill it but once i do that the sick fish get better and the healthy fish get ick?
is there no way of preventing this? Everytime they get it they die. NOTHING I DO HELPS
i have these fish in a fully planted all natural tank, two filters and 2 heaters as its a large tank. the current temp it 82 degress
4TETRAS- 1 has Ick 2NEON TETRAS- had ick but went away when i raised temp 2 BLUE STRIPE TETRA'S 1 RAINBOW FISH 1 ANGEL- was fine now showing signs of ick 1BALLA SHARK- was fine now showing lots of ick 7 PLATIES - i has ick 6 DANIOS 1BRISTLENOSE PLECO 1RUBERLIP PLECO 1CORY CAT
WHAT CAN I DO? WHAT FISH CAN LIVE IN A HIGH TEMP SO I DONT GET ICK? I AM SO LOST AND GETTING SO FRUSTRATED I LOVE MY FISH BUT I CANT DEAL WITH THIS ANY LONGER

Try this stuff.. raise your temp to 82-85 and follow instructions on the bottle. I've used it in the past and it worked really well In the future going forward, try adding a small amount of aquarium salt and keep temperature up around 80 Also note that Ick is triggered by stress, keep good water quality and good diet and pay attention to your fish and look for cause of stress in your tank.

Hard to do with a dirt bottom, but the from what I understand the ick spoors fall off the fish as it heals, so very important to vac the tank very well and several times to remove the ick spoors from the sub straight. With dirt bottom not sure how that would be possible. I find that a temp of 85 and API aquarium salt works well, a tbl spoon for 5 gallons

i've had a hard time with using aquarium salt. Makes the tank so foggy? even with 2 good filters one filter is just carbon while the other is sponge and ammonia remover stones

Do you dissolve the salt in a container before adding to the aquarium. I use salt in all my tanks have not had any fog from salt. Is it API aquarium salt? No salt in the cherry shrimp tank

Also remember to remove carbon filters when medicating. If you don't the carbon will dilute the medication and u will still have the same prob. If you fallow the instructions on the ice meds to the letter you shouldn't have a prob.

A trick to get salt into your system is to add it when you are doing a water change. In the bucket add the appropriate amount then blast it with really hot water (high temps increase the rate of dissolution) and stir vigorously. Once it looks dissolved switch over to cold water to cool down the bucket to the desired temp (as close to the aquarium temp as possible). This is a trick I started doing with my African cichlid salt due to it being very coarse and not dissolving very easily, hopefully it helps. Best of luck with the tank!

Never had a problem with cloudiness and salt I just dump it in and let it dissolve. Sometimes the cichlids think it's food and eat some but never had a problem that way

First off REMOVE the ammonia remover stones BEFORE you add salt to your tank!!!!!!!! To recharge those stones, you rinse them in saltwater, which means they release ALL the ammonia stored in them all at once when washed in saltwater! That is the cause of the cloudy water, and most likely each time you have done it, the tank went through a mini cycle! Which stressed the fish, and the circle continues with the ick!

OMG THAT MAKES SENSE, i used to have a amonia pad in my filter and always used salt. MAYBE thats why my guppies always died? haha wow. well i wont be using salt at all, just in case, im getting rid of all my fish except my pleco and my rainbow and turning the heat up high to 89* it should kill all the ich and then ill wait till after christmas before buying any more
