What would work ? I want to use slate stone as a natural pot, the slate I am using is 2.5 inches thick and I drilled a 2 inch hole through it. The idea is to fill the hole with peat , Eco complete or rock wool. What would work best? Then what type of plant might do well grown this way. The tank is low to medium light and is 30 inches deep, so the taller the plant the better. Thanks looking forward to some ideas

Use eco complete if in a shallow substrate and medium light and you want a plant with height. Nothing would look better with angels than some jungle val.

Ludwigia repens grows tall and can give you a slight splash of color I can bring you some if you want, I also have some giant hair grass that grows tall and looks pretty cool.

Should have mentioned to that I don't use any fertilizers or co2 on this tank. Will those plants still work? Thanks Stevee I will do a bit or research to see what those plants look like, not familiar with those types

You don't need c02 or ferts with vallisneria. It will still grow for you.

I have a lot of Cryptocorine Balance, no ferts, medium to low light, upwards of 24" tall! I can probably get quite a few young plants!

Gabe I would take one for now and try it out in the way I want to plant it and see how it does. How much per plant and could you bring one to the meeting?
