So when space gets tight for plants they have to find a way to get to the light or perish. I have have found the aponogeton undulatus has a interesting strategy for survival. In my one tank the plant was being shadowed by lotus plants on one side and a huge pearl weed bush on the other. What did the aponogeton do ? It shot out a extra long stem up behind my sponge filter and then ran it across the surface. Once floating on the top above the pearl weed and beyond the tiger lotus it put a leaf that floats on the surface and and shadows the other plants. Now that leaf is getting full light to provide energy and food for the plant. I found this fascinating and shows even plants can fight for survival.

Beautiful plants. What are they? Your mean the other plants in the tank I am not referring too. Well the big leaved plants on the left are both red and green tiger lotus species and the big light green plant is pearl weed.
