My trick to never having a low ph test....I don't test ph!
Could be your test kit pH naturally goes down when the lights are off (that is why some recommend to light your refugium on an opposite cycle to the display). Try testing around lights-out time for a couple of nights and see what the reading is.
Also, try and raise it slowly - if it is really that low, then take some time bringing it up so you don't shock your livestock.
I will see if I have any different buffer than you kicking around too...

I have honestly found that if all your other elements (alk, cal, mag) are within acceptable limits PH is usually unproblematic. I know a lot of salt water keepers do not really focus on PH- the main focus should be on the other elements. As long as your tank is running fine and your alk, cal, and mag are in line, PH should naturally fall within acceptable ranges. Mine usually hovers around 7.8-8.0
7.1 is a little on the low side- see if something is pushing your ph down especially if your probe is calibrated- what were your alk, cal and mag numbers?

hmmm the only issue is the alk is a little low, but not low enough in my opinion for a PH of 7.1. That is strange, I guess using a a buffer to bring PH up slowly would be good- this will also raise your alk. Are you dosing anything for alk, I know dosing baking soda to raise alk can depress PH a little.
