Hi, my name is Cindy. You can also call me May. I'm a new member here. Actually, I've visited here quite a few times and read some interesting threads before I actually registered. I figured it's about time I made an account to get to know other fellow aquarium hobbyist. Between my husband, my son, and I, we have four tanks. My son has an oscar tank. My husband has a cichlid tank. I'm just crazy about Discus and we have a hospital/quarantine tank. If any of you guys frequent the local pet/aquarium stores like we do then you've probably ran into us one time or another. Anyway, I'm pretty happy to have come across this site and I hope to meet/get to know you all (:

Hi Cindy , very happy you decided to jump in and say hi . Please feel free to ask for help if need be or also to lend a hand in helping others. I really think you and your family would enjoy the family atmosphere at our club meetings . In April we have a speaker coming in to help everyone with taking pictures of their tanks and fish.

Welcome to the forum May, great to have you and your family on board. What kind of discus and cichlids do you guys keep? Thank you! I really like this forum. Hopefully I'll get to meet you all. I'll probably show up at the next meeting. I'm fairly new to discus. I've been keeping discus since February 14th of this year so I don't really know the names well and from researching online I find that some of the discus I keep have many names. I don't know which ones are the correct names to be honest. Here goes... I think I have an albino, blue cobalt, blue diamond, some red pigeons, a yellow pigeon, a red melon, a couple turquoise, and a Mandarin passion. I would post pics on here to show them but I don't know how to. In that tank we also keep albino bristle nose plecos (they are so cool!) and a few Cardinal tetras. As for cichlids, my husband knows those more than I do but for the ones I know, we have demasoni, albino, red zebra, venustus, jewels, ice blues, obs, many peacocks, blueberry ob, arutus livingstoni cross, female convicts, nimbochromis livingstoni, and that's about all that I remember. In that tank we have one huge pictus catfish. My husband still hasn't decided what theme he wants for that tank. I know he wants to keep the venustus for sure. And then we have the oscars, with a pictus catfish and an albino bristlenose.

Wow , looks like you jumped in with both feet as far as the discus are concerned . Must be an awesome looking tank. Actually I should say "tanks" as your husbands and sons tanks must be teaming with activity. If you go to the photo section there's a link to help you post pictures. Look at me , someone who has never posted a picture help someone post pics.......

Great tank stock May, will be nice to see some pictures some time. How big are the Discus and what size tank are they in? I sold two of my discus out of the bunch and I added a few more. They're in a 90 gallon. I have 10 discus in total ranging from 3" - 6". I'll post some pictures soon!

Very nice pictures! and of course fish!
You are in the right place for advice on planted tanks! We keep from high to very low tech planted tanks in the club! I would defenetly start with going to our meeting, since we always have a variety of plants in our action!
Are you planning on breeding the discos? The reason I am asking is that at such time you need to remove the bristlenose fro the tank! They love the slime that discos feed the fry with, and could injure the parents!

I've had these guys for a little over a month and so far so good. I read that about the albino bristlenose plecos just two days ago actually. If I do decide to breed them I'll just use one of my other tanks. I have 3 extra empty tanks that are running. I use those tanks for any sick fish or for when our cichlids need a little time out (:

Welcome! You have gorgeous fish. I too have an issue with keeping plants alive, my problem appears to be by land and sea. I wish you much success in plants because I clearly have none.
