Anyone know how to get rid of unwanted snails in a planted discus tank? They are eating holes in my plants. I have tiny little snails that have appeared. So far it's under control but I really do not want a snail explosion. I need to find a safe way to get rid of them without harming my plants and especially my discus. I have been handpicking them out basically but it's not fun at all when I have a 120 gallon. I heard assassin snails can help but I don't want a bunch of those in the tank either if they breed as fast as these little ones. Any help is much appreciated.

I sometimes sink lettuce or a piece of zucchini/cucumber and the snails go to it to eat and then I simply remove and start again.

I knew I should have bid on those assassin snails at the LAS auction. I was thinking about it to get rid of these pesty snails but I wasn't sure. Do they do their job well? I mean it's a huge tank and these tiny little snails are even hard to find for me. They like staying on my floating plants. I have cucumbers in there for my pleco but they just seem to love poking holes in my plants >.< Will the assassin snails do that as well? $2 for a snail... I'll give it some thought. Mike if you're in Windsor, I could always meet up with you for the snails if I don't get any from now till the time you come into the city.

They do a great job at first you won`t see much of a change then you will have empty shells on top of the gravel I would say they eat 2-3 a day I only put 2 in my 90g and it was snail free in 2 months. I look for snails now just to feed them and get them to lay eggs they multiply slowly you can remove them easily after all the bad snails are gone. If you want to meet me Friday night that will work mine are starving and ready to go work. Friday night is good for me. PM me a time and place. Maybe I should take 2 for now? I don't have many snails at all but I always see new ones appear that I just pick off. Will they eat my plants?

Get a yoyo loach for a while. They love snails and you can sell him off later when he's done his job.

They're usually one of the more common loaches you can find in a pet store.
