Hello Everyone,
This will be my last President's message as Gabe (gabor129), is our new Windsor Aquarium Society President and he has now assumed his role. I want to thank everyone for coming out to our January 2016 meeting and for those who braved the driving conditions. It was a relaxed meeting with about 24 members in attendance, we did our auction, raffle, membership renewals, bowl show, and had social time. A big thank you to all those who donated and especially Jeff Aqwa for donating his absolutely stunning art piece and congrats to Gabe for outbidding Les and getting to take home Jeff's art. The Bowl show winners were DJ and Jeff.
Unfortunately I had to leave after an hour to go to work, but I got a chance to hand over the reins of the Windsor Aquarium Society to Gabe. As I stated at the meeting, the reason for me stepping down is that I simply do not have the time to commit to the position anymore. The time constraints of law school just simply cannot be balanced with WAS and my other commitments anymore and I feel as though the club is in a great position now and I am positive that we have the right people running WAS. Although it was not an easy decision, as Present of WAS it was my duty to put the club first, so I believe allowing someone with a fresh perspective and with time to commit to the position is in the best interest of the club and its membership.
I have full confidence in Gabe along with Les and Glen to steer WAS in the right direction and to ensure its existence for the future. I want to take a moment to reflect on my last 2 and half years as President of the Windsor Aquarium Society. In 2013 when I began the forum and everyone began to meet (informally first at Tim Hortons, then at Mic Mac and then at the Moose Lodge), I never would have guessed this club would become what it is today with over 50 members strong. I am proud and humbled by what WAS has turned into and it could not have been accomplished without numerous people, including some that are no longer with the club. It has been thrilling to be on board since the very beginning and witness the very inception of the forum and the Windsor Aquarium Society and to see what it has become- its almost like watching your child grow up.
I want to thank all of our WAS membership, without you there would be no Windsor Aquarium Society. I especially have to thank Les and Glen, without you two I could not have performed my role as President and WAS would not be where it is today without them, I feel privileged to have worked alongside both of you and I consider you both family. It takes many hours to make a club like this run and I will always remember and look fondly upon my time as President of the club. It has certainly been a roller coaster but there is no question, the positives outweigh any negatives that the club has brought to my life.
There are many exciting things coming to WAS, but everything of course takes time and believe me the executive does and will continue to put in many hours into working on projects for WAS and doing what it takes to make the club run. I for one am very excited to see what large event WAS can muster this year (bus trip, auction or dinner with a speaker). A special thank you to all those who made WAS possible and to all those who continue to make it operate. Although I am not President anymore, I will still be running the forum and helping the club in anyway I can. It is going to be a pleasant change to be able to relax at WAS meetings and see it from another perspective. I will see you all at the meetings and I look forward to the bright future of the Windsor Aquarium Society.
