I have been having issues recently mixing Reef Crystals the last 4 months. Seems worse with the last batch. My process is to dump salt into RO water in 5 gallon buckets (4). I would just stir it with a stick a few time a day. After a few days it was mixed. Temperature was as low as the high 60s last winter. Now I can't seem to get it to mix well even when I left a power head on all day.
Not a good idea but I have been dumping it in the tank anyway. About 10 hours to clear up. I am going to buy a heater but it will be a pain to use with 4 separate buckets. I had read that mixing salt with near room temp is fine and I had no issues before.
Has anyone else been having problems? Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Steve

I seem to have the same issue! It might have been old salt we purchased! I am putting it in the tank as well! No issues so far!

Are you dumping all of the portion in at the same time? I used to use Reef Crystal, used to being the key word and I noticed that if you drop the whole portion in at the same time it does not mix well, clarity and levels/ parameters.
I found that dumping 1/4 of the portion at a time, stir or mix via power head, wait for 10-15 minutes then repeat was the best for consistency
I would suggest to anyone to use up your Instant ocean, switch to something a little more consistent and never look back. I switched to Tropic Marin and I couldn't be happier with it. I do less water changes, I see better consistency and much better polyp extension. A little more cost but worth every penny (my opinion)

We moved here from the GTA so I used to get my salt from a coral shop out there- canada corals (great place and they ship) but down here... I remember seeing a few buckets at the aqua on tecumseh.

Yeah I dump it all in at once. Thanks. I'll try mixing a little bit at a time. I left a powerhead and heater in a bucket for two days. It still did not fully mix. I'm going to contact the company as I don't want this hassle for 100 more gallons.

I am sending them samples and they are going to send me a free box. Hopefully they end up telling me the results so I can post them.

I remember my worst batch of Instant ocean. Mixed up almost chalky/milky. That was the last straw lol
