Hello Everyone,
This will be my first official pre meeting presidents message, therefore I relied heavily on Ryan's previous messages! Hope to get better at this as we go on!!! Thanks for understanding!
The next Windsor Aquarium Society meeting will be this Sunday, February 14th beginning a 10:00am. The meeting is at the Moose Lodge, located at 777 Tecumseh Road West in Windsor- we are in the hall to the left of the entrance.
All memberships are due at this meeting for 2016. Prices remain the same at $20 per person or $25 for a couple/family. If you know you are going to renew and will be attending this meeting, you can PM or email me, ( gabor129@cogeco.ca ), your full name, or the names of those who you wish to buy for. This will save time at the meeting. Please consult the website (www.windsoraquariumsociety.zohosites.com), or the membership and discount thread on the forum (in the Windsor Aquarium Society area) for current discounts.
In February we are happy to have Dr. Steven Kessel introduce us to sharks!!!
A bit of information on Dr. Steven Kessel!
Dr. Steven Kessel’s 15 year research career has focused primarily on large coastal shark species, in contrasting regions around the globe. Dr. Kessel’s research experience began in Bimini, Bahamas, where as an undergraduate, he studied lemon shark (Negaprion brevirostris), nursery prey communities, and biotopes. Following the completion of his undergraduate research, Dr. Kessel began his Ph.D studying shark community structures in the Bahamas, and Florida. Looking at various species, including lemon, tiger, bull, great hammerhead, and blacktip sharks. During this time Dr. Kessel, with his colleague Dr. Nigel Hussey, initiated a research study on sharks, and rays in Sudanese waters. Focusing on the rich populations of scalloped hammerhead, grey reef sharks, and manta ray aggregations. Since moving to Canada, in addition to maintaining his past research interests, Dr. Kessel has been assisting with Greenland shark research in the high Arctic.
Aquarium Society Presentation Title: Shark biology, ecology and population concerns: A global perspective
As always, the February meeting will include, raffle (tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5), and auction.
The bowl show for February is another unique one with 2 categories:
1. Other fish.....Any fish that does not fit into any other categories.
2. Identical fish..... Fish that is exactly like each other!
Hope to see you all there!
