So I am curious what everybody's lighting of choice is for there tanks and why ? Do you prefer T5's, CFL's, LEDs, T8's, T12's and some even use metals halides. So my light choices are based on the needs of the plants I have in my tanks since I have all planted tanks. I currently use mostly LED lighting. I like the Finnex Leds and use the Finnex Planted Plus on my 10 gallon tanks. And I use the Finnex Ray 2 that has light that can penetrate deeper water on my 15 gallon tall tanks. I have a T5 light being used on one tank as it was built into the hood and is working great for the plants I have in that tank. And I also have one tank using a light strip with dual CFL bulbs and I always found the 23 watt 6500K CFL's to work great for high lighting on smaller tanks.

I found that the most results I get with just T8 shop lights! LEDs are getting better, however the up front cost for them deter me from converting to them! Most of my lights are Daylight fluorescent tubes from Home Depot. They work for me and the cost is reasonable!

Shop lights usually work just fine for most plants. It's only when you get into wanting your plants to grow faster or want them to go red that it matters what your lighting is I find.

My new lights are Finnex LED's on 3 tanks, but I still have T8 fluorescent tubes on the other 5 tanks. I don't have planted tanks, other than a few Anubias plants in a couple of tanks, they are under the 6700k T8 fluorescent tubes
