Anybody raise brine shrimp? I want to start growing them out for a source of live food and would appreciate any tips and advice. Right now, I'm looking at a 5 gallon bucket, a sponge filter and left over baby brine shrimp from fry feedings. I'm going to feed them powdered algae and I'm concerned about over or under feeding and water quality of this bucket over the long term as I've tried doing this with a bubbler and small container which usually led to a container of dead shrimp.

I've watched and all they do is put the bucket out so the shrimp feed off the algae that's formed from being under the sun... I guess. Then there are other blogs and stuff I've read that say that the salt water in the container needs to be replaced every week or so... and that sounds like too much work. I would think that a sponge filter would eliminate the need for water changes... but maybe I'm wrong.

When I raised the brine shrimp to adults all I did was poor the extra babies I had from hatching into a shoebox tote with a air stone and a desk lamp over top. I feed them live yeast everyday. It was very easy to do and they will even breed like this.

I did it by accident once. I had a bbs hatchery going and it was in a different room than the fishroom and I forgot it was going. Once I realized I looked and there were adults in the culture. I was never able to replicate it on purpose. I didn't try very hard though.

I mixed the yeast in water and added it to the culture. It will turn the water cloudy, when the water clears add more yeast.
