Hey! One of the 13 shrimp I got at the last meeting's auction is berried. I'm uncertain about the effects of higher pH on the eggs' survival, however. I tested the water in the bag they came in, and it read around 6.8 where my water is up around 7.8 (I drip acclimated them for a couple hours). I'm not certain on the exact species these shrimp even are, so I can't even research and see what I'm up against! Any thoughts?

Those are a blue variety of the cherry shrimp! They are a bit more sensitive than cherries are, still a hardy bunch!

Just a suggestion I would separate the blue one's from the one's like in the pic so they don't keep breeding out there color.. the one's like the pic are throw backs meaning there reverting back to there wild coloration. They are neocardinia species.. lots of good info on the Internet

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering about that. I'll have to get another tank to make that happen.

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering about that. I'll have to get another tank to make that happen. A hang on breeder box makes a great cull tank just wedge a piece sponge where it drains back to the tank so the shrimplets don't go back to the main tank! It's also nice because the water is the same so the culls can be dropped right in .. plop & drop ..

Just an update that my wee little ones are getting along fine! I got news that they hatched while I was in Maple Ridge, BC if I remember correct. My sister found out when she siphoned a couple of them during a water change, lol. As of today, my largest one is around 7mm and the smallest about 2mm. No more berried mommas right now, but any further babies will now have to survive against predator cherry barbs and kuhlis!

Xander , just wondering what percentage of "wild coloured" ones you are getting from a single drop ?

From what I can tell right now, 100%. Will colour develop as they age?
In any event, of the 13 shrimp I got from the auction, only two show any blue colour at all. I've got them separate from the rest, but I believe they're the same gender, and I won't likely see any coloured babies without being actively selective.
