getting back into the hobby and decided to go with a 65 gallon planted tank. I forget alot of the knowledge i picked up from when i used to have tanks. so i have a few questions.
substrate i remember using eco complete not sure if theres anything better that came out. Lighting i know theres different levels needed for certain plants but i forget the wattage needed for each. also the dosing i forget which chemicals are used and how often they're used and the root tabs

First of all I would like to welcome you back into this great hobby . I myself use eco-complete in my planted tanks with good results . Not being really into the technical aspects of planted tanks I will leave your other questions to more experienced members .
Good luck with the tank .

I think you need to figure out which planted tank path you want to take first. High tech, medium or low tech. High tech being for the more advanced aquarist. The plants will require far more care in the aspects of substrate, lighting, chemicals and so on. I find medium level plant require good lighting and some added chemicals. Low tech being my personal favorite requires alot less care and maintenance. As long as you meet the lighting requirements (6500-6700k) and a good substrate you'll be fine. Well good luck and whatever you choose I hope it works out. Keep us informed, I'm sure I seek for everyone when I say we would love to see the progress

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going with a medium level planted tank. Just picked up a nice light and some substrate. Now just to get a filter and I can get started

Red or black. Both are great just red provides much more iron which is needed for plants. Also I find black requires alot of rinsing and just when you thought you rinsed enough, it's not. Lol. But you can't complain about the look. Black look amazing. What sort of filter do you plan to go with?
