Has anyone either considered or used a small pool pump for filtration? Thinking about using a small one for my 55gallon tanks. Think it would be good for water circulation but just wondering about whether it should be bio or mechanical filtration.
Thought/advice?

How many gallons per hour is it rated for? I think it's rated at 350 gallons per hour.

On its own, it should be adequate for your 55g tank. If you're using it with other filters and pumps, it could become overkill and bother your stock or just plain blow them around.

I am toying with doing the same. Have a spare kids pool pump. I figured if I adapted the outlet to 3/4 inch pipe, might restrict the flow enough. Then hook it up to a canister filter. I have one set up now on my temp. pond in my back porch to winter my pond fish over winter. Doing a great job with them.
