Hi all,
I'm setting up a 125 for my Aunt and Uncle. I want to do an outside layer of sand for Cory Cats to sift through. I'm not big on sandbox sand or pool filter sand... any other suggestions?

New pool filter sand is not a good idea because it is quite sharp and jagged to trap the algae that forms in a swimming pool. However, used pool filter sand is excellent because it has gotten quite rounded and ineffective for a swimming pool filter and has to be replaced. I save my old pool filter sand for use in aquariums, my corys, loaches and other bottom dwellers love rooting around in it Find a friend or neighbor who needs to replace their pool filter sand and offer to take it off their hands, I would offer you some used pool filter sand, but I am 3 hours away

Thanks everyone for your input... I ended up just going with the cheap black silica sand that Aqua sells. Does the trick!

I can't even remember but super cheap. I think like 1 or 2 dollars a pound.
